BARIATRIC SURGERY & PRE-OPERATIVE INCENTIVE SPIROMETRY
Patients are advised to practice deep breathing exercises using incentive spirometry for one week before bariatric surgery. This is continued after surgery until patient completely recovers. But at present, there is no evidence to suggest that pre-operative use of incentive spirometry improves post-operative lung function or reduces incidence of post-operative lung complications after bariatric surgery.
Bariatric Surgery vs Pregnancy
Bariatric surgery is indicated for permanent weight loss even in severely obese unmarried females or women of child bearing age. Pregnancy outcomes are not affected by bariatric surgery. Only precaution to be taken is pregnancy should not be planned during weight loss period (12 to 18 months) after bariatric surgery.
Preoperative Diet
Patients are advised to follow high protein, low calorie, low carbohydrate liquid diet for 10 days before laparoscopic bariatric surgery. This results in few kilograms of weight loss and shrinks the size of liver making surgery safer and easier. But this lost weight is regained over a period of time if surgery is not performed. HEALTHY FOOD Vs UNHEALTHY FOOD
Regular eating of WHITE RICE significantly increases the risk of TYPE 2 DIABETES.
If we eat healthy food - we live long.
If we eat unhealthy food - we die soon.
But problem is 95% of the tasty foods are unhealthy.
OBESITY IS A DISEASE
American Medical Association officially announced that "Obesity is a Disease". Obesity is not just a cosmetic problem. If you own obesity, more than 65 diseases gain free access into your body, including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea, osteoarthritis and other diseases.
LIPOSUCTION, COOL SCULPTING VS OBESITY
Liposuction, cool sculpting are not treatment options for obesity. These are cosmetic procedures aimed at removal of unwanted pockets of fat in normal or overweight individuals. They can't alter the set point for fat storage. So if performed in obese individuals all the lost fat is replaced over a period of 6 months to 2 years.
